  • Seung Cheol Shim is a professor of chungnam national university hospital in Daejeon, South Korea. He was graduated from hanyang university, and received M.S. and Ph.D. from the same university.

    He conducted residency and rheumatology fellowship at hanyang university hospital.
    He was the chief of medicine, the United Nations PKO, and started his academic career from eulji university as an assistant professor, director of the IRB, director of clinical trial center, and a vice dean of the graduate school.
    He was a visiting professor at university of washington.
    He moved to chungnam national university hospital and was a director of regional rheumatoid & degenerative arthritis center.

    He actively participates in a variety of academic association such as the Korean Association of Internal Medicine, was a president of Korean Society of Synovial Research, and a director of public relation committee, international cooperation committee, executive secretary committee of Korean College of Rheumatology
    And he was an executive secretary of the 15th International Congress on SLE.
    He is currently a president of Korean Society of SLE research (KSSR), full member of the Assessment of SpondyloArthritis International Society (ASAS), and SLE SIG member, APLAR.

    He has published many papers in peer reviewed journals including Nature genetics, ARD, A&R, and Rheumatology.

    He received distinguished awards such as Distinguished investigator award of Korean Rheumatism Association, Distinguished investigator award of Korean Rheumatism Association, Best research award of Korean Rheumatism Association, Best presentation award of Korean College of Rheumatology, Best research award of Korean College of Rheumatology, BumSeok scholarship, Distinguished professor award (Research), Distinguished professor award (Clinician), Distinguished professor award (Public relation) of Eulji University.
    His research has been focused on the genetics in the pathogenesis of spondyloarthritis, and also interested in the development of novel agents for the treatment of SpA.
