  • Will is a Professor of Digital Epidemiology at the University of Manchester and an honorary consultant rheumatologist at Salford Royal Hospital. He qualified in medicine from Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals in London and has higher degrees from The University of Manchester and McGill University, Montreal.

    His research focusses on using technology to support clinical care and research to improve patients’ lives. This includes the processing and analysis of routinely-collected data from clinicians, and the use of patient-generated data from consumer devices, including its novel integration into the NHS. Examples of Will’s work includes Assembling the Data Jigsaw, a local data integration pilot in Salford, and the national smartphone studies Cloudy with a Chance of Pain and REMORA (Remote Monitoring of Rheumatoid Arthritis). He leads Health Research from Home, a UK network to collate and share best practice about the use of smartphones and wearables for population health research. He is also the Academic Lead for the Greater Manchester Secure Data Environment (SDE).

    Will is a member of MRC’s Population and Systems Medicine Board (PSMB) and Population Health Sciences Group (PHSG), and is Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board for Our Future Health, an ambitious health study of 5M people in the UK.
